VLC media player, or more commonly referred to only as VLC, is the most popular choice for playing media content. It is very easy-to-use and keeps things handy with a simple and neat interface. It caters to various devices, including Windows (PCs & Laptops & Phones), macOS, Linux, Android & iOS smartphones.
As much as users love to listen to their favorite music via VLC, at times it becomes very tough to organize all those randomly named songs you love to frequently listen. A song named something to the tune of year-song title-song number, or containing the website name (from which you downloaded it) followed by a random numeric string are just 2 examples of the total gibberish you will often come across.
Identifying a song named from such a huge mess will always be a tough ask. There is no way except playing each song over and over. So we’ve done some research and let’s introduce you to a software that will take care of all your VLC renaming needs.
Easy File Renamer
As the name implies, this software helps you rename files. Easy File Renamer contains a file renaming section which renames all kinds of files. It provides 10 different renaming rules for the user to choose from. These rules offer a great level of flexibility to the user. We will take a detailed look at the renaming area shortly.
Easy File Renamer also provides a 1-stop solution to edit the metadata (or tags) of MP3 songs. This is a super amazing feature that can help you apply the same Genre, for instance, to 50 songs in 1 go rather than having to do the same task for 50 songs one by one!
Now let’s get into a detailed scenario on how Easy File Renamer does it.
Rename Songs
Renaming songs is a key element in ensuring you can easily trace the right music when required. The renaming should happen just the way you want it to, and be up and done in a flash. Easy File Renamer does exactly that.
The user interface provides plenty of useful options but does not bog down the user with too much because the interface is well structured.
Launch the software and open up the Music Fixer tab. Click the MP3 Files button to add the songs.
Once you’ve added all the songs, click the Select Rule drop-down menu on the left.
Note the various renaming rules that are available. These rules arm you with rich options on how you can rename MP3 songs. Let’s take a brief look at how these rules function.
- New Name: gives a totally new name
- Remove Text: removes the first, last or all the instances of a single/ several characters
- Replace Text: replaces the first, last or all the instances of a single/ several characters with the text of their choice
- Trim Text: trims the text by the specified characters at the start or the end of the song name
- Suffix: adds a user-defined suffix to the filename/ extension
- Prefix: adds a user-defined prefix to the filename/ extension
- Numbering: adds numbering (separated by a hyphen or underscore) at the start or the end of the song name
- InsertAt: adds user-defined text at any position in the song name
- Lowercase: converts all uppercase text in the song name to the lowercase
- Uppercase: converts all lowercase text in the song name to the uppercase
You must have also spotted the MP3 Name Pattern option in the bottom of the drop-down menu. That option provides 4 MP3 file specific renaming patterns such as Title_Artist, Artist_Title, Title_Album & Album_Title respectively.
Now that we have given our readers a brief but helpful insight into the renaming functions of Easy File Renamer, let’s look at an example.
Suppose we need to rename an MP3 file named abcd.com latest hit song 2019 to something more meaningful.
We can use
- the Remove Text rule to erase the abcd.com. (abcd.com here refers to the website from which the song was downloaded).
- the Prefix rule to add anything as a prefix, such as Artist Name or Album Name.
We can make intelligent use of all the renaming rules provided by EFR to rename files according to our choice. And by the way, the software also supports applying multiple rules, as well as multiple instances of the same rule in one go.
Edit Metadata
Now let’s turn our attention to editing the metadata for your VLC songs. These tags might seem insignificant to some people and they would consider them totally irrelevant. Others might want to add them, but the tiring job of opening up the Properties section for each and every song and editing multiple fields will definitely turn them off.
Easy File Renamer resolves this problem easily enough. It provides a platform where users can edit the Album, Artist, Year, Genre and Album Art for multiple songs in one go. Sounds really cool. Let’s look at it in detail.
Let’s say you want to edit the Artist and Year values for 5 songs from the same album. Add up all the songs in the Music Fixer tab.
You will notice a drop-down option in the top-right corner of the user interface titled Fixing Needed. Clicking it will reveal the numerical info on the tags missing from each of them.
Spot the Bulk Tag Editor button and click it.
Simply fill in the relevant info in the concerning field. Click the Add button and select the image you want to use as Album Art.
Click Update once you’re done. Now click the Rename button in the main interface of the software and select Yes in the prompt.
That’s it. Easy File Renamer helped you edit the metadata for multiple MP3 songs from a single window with speed and accuracy.
