Rename Files and Delete All Duplicates

Keeping the data neatly organized in the computer system is an art not many of us pay much attention to. A highly critical factor that can make life a lot easier for us is renaming files properly. Renaming files in a meaningful way helps decrease the number of searches required as well as the time taken for the computer to fetch the results.

What we mean by renaming files properly is to give them a name that helps us determine at first glance what the file is all about. For instance, Market_Survery 2018 makes things a lot clearer than the usual Document 1. And this trick isn’t just limited to documents. How about Sales_Targets_North.xlsx, Annual Vacation 100.JPG, and so on.

The second half of this blog post will see us describing how users can remove duplicates from their computers. This is again a huge plus when it comes to organizing data efficiently, but it goes way beyond that theme. The benefits also include tangible savings on cloud subscription fees, as the user would now be consuming lesser storage space than before. And yes, sweeping away duplicate data from the hard drive improves program load times, and reduces the chances of a system crash.

When these two tricks are put to good use, they ensure much lesser chances of a headache for you by making computing a lot easier and convenient.

We will suggest 1 software app for both of these tricks. And then we’ll be giving you a big surprise as well. So stick with us till the very end.

The Renaming

Renaming files is highly important. Even though you might think otherwise, renaming them helps save precious time lost on the highly unproductive job of searching for a particular file. Renaming files will translate them into a neater outlook of your data.

If you’re getting a little unsure about renaming files because doing all of this manually will prove to be a tiring job, worry not as we’re about to introduce you to a software that will rename a huge number of files within minutes.

Easy File Renamer

This software is built for renaming files in bulk, with great speed and an unmatched degree of accuracy. It provides a huge range of possibilities to the user while ensuring that the interface doesn’t make it too confusing.

Easy File Renamer provides 10 different renaming templates for the user to choose from. All they’ve got to do is select the rule of their choice, enter in the required information (in some cases), and click Rename. It is as simple as that, and renaming doesn’t get any easier and simpler than that.

Easy File Renamer can be downloaded for free from its official website. And yes, you will have to pay a token fee (as a license) to express your gratitude to the genius minds behind Easy File Renamer.

And by the way, the blog section of the EFR website contains a whole range of articles to help you with a host of file renaming jobs. Lastly, you can happily submit a query/ suggestion via the Support page, should the need arise.

Now let’s get to the renaming job right away.

  1. Launch the software once you’re done with the installation.
  2. Click the Files subtab (to rename Files), and the Folders subtab if you want EFR to rename folders for you.

Select the subtab of your choice
  3. Now click the Add Files button which is located right under the subtabs we just mentioned.
  4. Browse your way to the folder which contains files you want to rename, select them and click Open to load them in the Easy File Renamer interface.
  5. Look for the Select Rule dropdown menu. Click it and you’ll be seeing all the renaming rules to choose from.

    Selecting the renaming rule
  6. Most of these rules require the user to enter in new text. Enter the concerning text in the textbox which will be located right under the Select Rule dropdown menu. Some of these rules might also require an additional option (via a radio box) to be selected, which will also be located in the same area.
  7. Click the Add Rule button once you’ve selected the rule that has to be applied, and you will notice that the rule will appear in the Applied Rules section. If you want to make any changes, simply click the red cross next to the rule.

  8. If you’re happy with the rule being applied in its current form and want to proceed, Easy File Renamer will predict how things will look up you once the renaming has been done. Take a look at the Item New Name column to see how the file names will be once the rename job has been performed.

  9. If all seems well, click the green Rename button in the bottom right corner of the screen and click Yes in the confirmation prompt.

    The final push

We had to keep this section short so that our readers don’t get overburdened with too much information. But we would still like to tease our readers with the following one-liner: “Easy File Renamer allows applying multiple renaming rules in one go!” What this means is that you can add a prefix, suffix, trim a part of the filename, capitalize the entire filename and use all the remaining rules in a single operation. If this wasn’t enough for you, you can even opt to have a single (or more) rules applied multiple times in one go. Isn’t that amazing?

Go give it a try and tell us in your comments how did it go.

The Duplicate Cleaner

Now let’s turn towards getting rid of duplicate data. Duplicates are a harsh reality these days. These files are often created due to the user not organizing their data at all. When they need to access a specific file, they find it rather convenient to download that file off the web rather than going to dig it out from a huge mess of files. To most users, this might seem to be a neat trick to find their way around doing things, but this surely will lead to a hell of problem one day. When that happens, there will be very little storage space left, the computer will be much slower, and the user at the receiving end will surely be in a huge mess. So why not take care of the problem NOW!

Clone Files Checker

This software program is a duplicate file eating monster of sorts. No matter what the file type is, no matter how deep it is buried in the file hierarchy, no matter how big the file is, Clone Files Checker will dig it out. If this wasn’t enough, here is the biggest of them all. Even if the suspect duplicate file is named differently than the original file, CFC will dig it out right away.

This is because Clone Files Checker simply disregards the filename when looking for duplicates. It directly scans the hash (content in a layman’s language) while comparing files for duplicate data. This excellent utilization of algorithms enables it to dive deep into the hash, detect any duplicates and present the scan report to the user with speed and accuracy.

Clone Files Checker can be downloaded for free from its website. We also recommend taking a look at the Videos section of the website, which is specifically designed to explain the whole mechanism to the user in a simple way without boring them to death.

Let’s now get to the duplicate cleaning process without wasting any more time.

  1. Execute the setup file to install Clone Files Checker.
  2. Launch the software and use the Add button in the Include to Scan subtab of the System Scan tab to select the location which has to be scanned for duplicate data.

Adding the files for duplicate scan
  3. Find your way to the folder that contains the suspect duplicate data, select it and click OK.
  4. The next section is totally optional, and you can safely choose to ignore it without worrying about the scan’s accuracy. It basically allows users to limit the scan to specific file types and also use a file size range. Either way, click the Start Search button once you’re good to go.

    Launching the scan
  5. The scan will be up and running momentarily. It is optimized to get things done quickly without compromising on the scan integrity. Once you get the scan results splashed on the screen, you’ll most definitely be surprised.

    Scan results
  6. Click the Review & Fix button.
  7. You will notice the duplicates populate the Clone Files Checker user interface in the form of a list. The duplicates will be divided into groups, with each group containing duplicates of a unique file.
  8. Even though you can manually select the duplicates you want to get rid of, this isn’t really a practical way when you’re dealing with duplicate files that run into tens of thousands (and beyond). Click the Select Duplicates button and choose a filter of your choice that will determine which file from each duplicate group will be retained.

  9. The last step requires you to click the Select Action button and choose between purging the duplicates or moving them to a folder (this option is helpful if you think the duplicates might prove helpful in the future).

    The final act
  10. That’s it. The duplicates have been cleaned up, and your data has been cleaned of all duplicates.
  11. If someday in the future, you want to refresh your memory on the number of duplicates you had rid yourself in any particular scan, you can happily click the History tab in the CFC interface and you’ll be provided with handy info for every single scan you’ve carried out.

Clone Files Checker will clean up the mess within the shortest possible time. It will perform the job with a perfect degree of accuracy, and you will recover a big amount of storage space that was previously lost to duplicates.

The trial version of this software allows deleting an unlimited number of duplicates for up to 10 groups if you just want to check for yourself how this software works. If you want any further duplicate cleanup, you will have to subscribe to one of the payment plans for CFC.

And now the biggest of them all, why pay more when you can get the same job done for less? In other words, why pay for both Clone Files Checker and Easy File Renamer licenses when you can get EFR for free! That’s right. Simply head to the Registration page of CFC, and upon registering, you will get a lifetime license key for EFR absolutely free!

Act now before this offer runs out!
