It’s a common practice among businesses to create multiple cloud accounts. It helps in backup and archiving purposes. In the case one account gets compromised or becomes inaccessible, it’s easy to restore data from another account.
Another benefit of creating multiple accounts is separation of data. Businesses often create multiple accounts for different projects or departments such as sales, accounting, human resource, customer service, legal, etc. This helps businesses limit access to sensitive business data and prevent unauthorized employees from accessing confidential data and prevent security breaches, theft of trade secrets, and protect privacy. Businesses use separation of data as a method to prevent data snooping.
Moving Files from OneDrive for Business to OneDrive for Business
There are multiple ways to move cloud files from one account to another. If you’ve fewer files to transfer, we recommend Method 1 and Method 2. If you have too many files to transfer, or if you need to repetitively transfer files, Method 3 is highly recommended to transfer cloud files online.
Method 1: Using the Move To Pop-Up Dialog
If you’re using multiple OneDrive for Business accounts, there is an in-house functionality to manually move files from one account to another. However, you must be signed in to both the accounts in a single browser.
- Sign in to the source OneDrive for Business account from where you want to move your data.
- Sign in to the destination OneDrive for Business account in the same browser.
- In the source account, click on the My Files tab on the left panel.
- Go to the folder that contains the data you want to migrate.
- Right-click on the files and folders you want to move.
- Select the “Move to” option.
- A new pop-up dialog will appear.
- Expand your target OneDrive for Business account.
- Select the destination folder where you want to transfer your files.
- Click on the “Move here” button.
Method 2: Sync/ OneDrive App Method
The sync method involves signing in to your source account in the browser, and target account in the OneDrive app.
- Sign-in to your source OneDrive for Business account in your browser.
- Sign-in to your target OneDrive for Business account in the OneDrive app on your computer.
- In the source account, go to the folder containing the files you want to transfer.
- Right-click on your files, and select the Download option.
- OneDrive will prepare and start downloading a zip archive of your files. It may take some time.
- Once your zip archive is downloaded, open it using 7-Zip File Manager.
- Extract the contents of your zip archive to a sub-folder in the “OneDrive” folder in your File Explorer.
- Your OneDrive app will automatically start syncing those files online. Once your files are successfully synced, the OneDrive icon will turn to “Ready” mode.
Method 3: Automated Method
Easy Cloud Manager is a simple and straightforward Web-based app. You can use ECM to automatically move files between multiple accounts on predefined schedules.
ECM supports numerous cloud platforms including OneDrive for Business, OneDrive, Google Drive, Google Workspace, Dropbox, Box, Amazon S3, and many more.
ECM is 100% safe. It connects to your account using official APIs from your cloud provider. In other words, you don’t need to enter your password. You can revoke access permissions to ECM at any time by un-linking your account.
Step 1: Add Your OneDrive for Business Accounts
- Visit the Easy Cloud Manager website and create a new account.
- Click on the Add Cloud Drives section on the Home tab.
- Click on the OneDrive Business icon.
- Sign-in to your account and provide account access permissions to ECM.
- Similarly, add your another OneDrive for Business account.
Step 2: Specify Source & Destination Folders and Start Transfer
- Click on the Operations tab.
- Click on the Data Transfer > Select Source.
- Check the source folders that contain data you want to transfer.
- Click on Select Target.
- Choose a destination folder from your target account.
- Click on Transfer Now.
Note: You can also schedule cloud file transfers at a later time. To do so, click on the Scheduled Task button and choose your desired date and time.
