Sequential Renaming

  1. Select all the images you want to rename by changing the view to thumbnail.
  2. On the panel located on the right-hand side, click the filename option at the top. If you selected multiple files, you will see the Mixed option over there rather than the file’s name.
  3. You’ll get a pop-up window which you can be used to rename the files you’ve selected. The files you rename will appear in sequential order in this method.

Renaming Files Using Presets

You can also use pre-determined presets in Lightroom to change file names easily.

  1. Select the File Renaming Tab on the right-hand side of the Import dialog box and click Edit from the drop-down menu.
  2. A new window will pop-up. Simply replace the old file names with the new text you want to assign them. Click Filename number suffix from the drop-down menu under the Image Name section. You can also change/add numbering and date in the file name.
  3. After you’ve made all the changes, click on Done | Save current setting as new preset. Give a unique name to this setting.
